Pregnancy - Week 18

Email Print

This is the week all the forensics are grateful for: each baby gets a unique fingertips pattern. Fat accumulates close to the surface of the skin creating extra fine creases.

The foetus's intestines are secured inside his abdomen, his large intestine being directed in the lower abdomen. His digestive system starts to prepare for the difficult job of processing food for years and years to come and starts producing minute quantities of meconium out of amniotic fluid, dead cells and secretions inside the intestines.

The foetus weighs up to 200 grams (about 7 ounces) and is about 18 cm (7 inches), top to bottom.
